A local liqueur to go nuts for

Just in time for the cooler weather and all your après ski special coffee needs, The Woods Spirit Co. is releasing its all-local, award-winning Crema Nocciola. This hazelnut cream liqueur, a gold medal winner at Sip Magazine’s Best of the Northwest Awards 2024, is crafted in small batches from sustainably grown Abbotsford hazelnuts, freshly roasted Moja Coffee distillate and Canadian non-GMO oat milk.

This seasonal release marks the comeback of Fraser Valley hazelnuts, which were all but wiped out in the early 2010s by Eastern Filbert Blight. The vulnerability of B.C. produce to disease and climate change is highlighted by the loss of another nut variety, Okanagan green walnuts—the devastating freezes of 2022/23 and 2024 meant no harvest in those years, which means 2025 will be the last year for The Woods’s Barrel-Aged Nocino.

That’s even more reason to cherish local products like the Crema Nocciola. Sip it chilled or use it in dessert cocktails, affogatos or tropical drinks. Just beware that these liqueurs are available in limited quanities and for a limited time.
